The Seals of Sausalito

After my European tour in the summer of 2012, I spent a week on a houseboat in Sausalito, California with my family. In Sausalito, I immediately fell in love with the houseboat lifestyle, the creative homes and the colorful flowers lining the docks. That week with my family represents a very peaceful time in my life - Allison

The fog rolls down the hill,
The air is still and calm,
The temperature is rising,
And the day will be warm.

I stand and feel it all,
As I look out on the water.
I’ve even made some friends here,
One girl looks like she’s my daughter.

And I feel safe here, I feel calm here, I feel at home here.

Decisions to be made,
But nothing’s yet been written.
Every day’s a white page,
And the colors are still hidden.

It’s all a mental exercise,
‘Til something finally happens.
I wonder where my future lies,
But I can’t forget what’s happened.

And I feel safe here, I feel calm here, I feel at home here.

Here, there are flowers on the docks.
Here, there are seals amid the flocks of seagulls.
Here, I can kayak with my mother.
Here, I can tease my little brother.
And my father smiles, and leans back in his chair,
And says, everything’s OK.

Loneliness is funny,
It comes and goes at will.
It strikes you with a fatal breath,
Leaves when it’s had its fill.

Memories of an old life,
It seems simpler, but it wasn’t.
The pain that struck me like a knife
When I had to tell my husband.

But I feel safe here, I feel calm here, I feel at home here.

Here, there are flowers on the docks.
Here, there are seals amid the flocks of seagulls.
Here, I can kayak with my mother.
Here, I can tease my little brother.

And my father smiles, and leans back in his chair,
And says, everything’s OK.

And somehow I know, that just because he said it,
Everything’s gonna be OK.

The fog rolls down the hill,
The air is still and calm,
The temperature is dropping,
But the day is still warm.

I stand and feel it all,
As I look out on the water.
I’ve even made some friends here,
One girl looks like she’s my daughter.

And I feel safe here, I feel calm here, I feel at home here.
